Nigeria’s national cricket team, the Yellow Greens, are back in action today at the 13th African Games after a disappointing start on Sunday. The Greens, who suffered defeat against their Tanzanian opponents yesterday, will face Team Namibia at 1:50 PM.
Today’s action at the two Achimota Cricket Ovals is expected to recreate Sunday’s festivity, with spectators, especially from the Asian and European communities, turning out in large numbers to watch exciting games.
While a lot of fanfare and cricket action were noticeable in the Group A clash between Zimbabwe and Namibia, Nigeria lost by 47 wickets to Tanzania in the first Group B match.
Tanzania batted first and scored 131 runs from 120 balls in the first innings. Nigerian bowler Joshua Asia took 3 Tanzanian wickets to help slow down the 6th-ranked African team.
The second innings chase for Nigeria was not very promising, as all 10 batters were dismissed in 18.3 overs. Nigeria's total runs were 84, with Joseph Adedeji becoming the country’s lone star in the batting department. Joseph scored 25 runs off 33 balls before being caught by Mohammed Yunusi of Tanzania.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe defeated Namibia by 35 runs in the Group A match.
