No fewer than 80 ladies from golf clubs across the country and 125 men are on the ground to compete for honors as the 2025 11th Kaduna Golf Club 1921 Ladies Golf Championship teed off on Thursday, January 9, 2025.
The annual tournament saw the participating golfers dressed in green and white apparel, with several dignitaries on hand to witness the tee-off at the lush green course of Kaduna Golf Club.
The four-day championship is expected to end on Sunday with the presentation of prizes to the winners.
Today, there will be a special barbecue, while Saturday will feature Old School Nite, among other events, after the day's play of the Veterans Men Category and Ladies Category.
Speaking after the tee-off, Ken Nwankwo said women are the ones who organize the home front, so people should expect action. Justina Gideon, Kaduna Ladies Golf Club captain, said they are all well-prepared, stressing that 80 women and 125 men are on the ground to bring glamour to the championship.
The first vice president of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, Lami Ahmed, appealed to the men, especially northern men, to allow their wives to come out and play the game of golf.
According to her, religion should not be a barrier because there are various ways of dressing to cover the body. She added that golf can be played from the age of 6 to 99.
The president of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, Evelyn Oyome, thanked the host for making the course beautiful and welcomed all the golfers to the city of Kaduna.
The championship will climax on Sunday with the presentation of prizes.
