Karim Mohammed, also from the same university, finished in 1:07.90 to win silver, while Daramola Adegboyega of the University of Lagos took bronze, finishing in 1:31.86.
Mohammed said he was happy to come out victorious in the event.
“I am so excited I won this. I never expected to come out on top; it was not easy, but I tried my best.
“I really want to improve in swimming, especially my time. I would really love to improve.
“I trained hard to come out triumphant, so this victory is a result of hard work.
“I hope to put in more effort to take this to a whole new level,” he said.
