Toto Wolff criticizes the treatment of Mick Schumacher at Haas, and Guenther Steiner answers

Posted : 20 April 2023
Toto Wolff said that Guenther Steiner would have treated Mick Schumacher differently at Haas if his illustrious father Michael had been present. Guenther Steiner has replied to that claim.

After two seasons with the team, Schumacher was let go by Haas, and experienced driver Nico Hulkenberg took his position.
In his most recent book, Surviving to Drive: A Year Inside Formula 1, Haas team chief Steiner describes how Schumacher's crashes in Saudi Arabia, Monaco, and Japan cost the company more over $2 million (£1.6 million).
Following the incident at Suzuka at the conclusion of a rainy Friday practice session, Steiner wrote about the Monaco accident and claimed the German "seems unable to comprehend the seriousness of the issue" and cannot have a driver who I am not convinced can take a vehicle around safely on a slow lap.
Toto Wolff previously informed the Swiss daily Blick that Schumacher, who is now Lewis Hamilton and George Russell's backup driver at Mercedes, would take over if either driver was unable to participate in a race weekend.
And he said that had seven-time world champion Michael—who sustained a brain damage in a 2013 skiing accident—been there, Haas would have treated Schumacher differently.
