Teammates Chase Elliott and William Byron exited NASCAR Cup Series race due to Elliott losing control.

Chase Elliott and William Byron, teammates at Hendrick Motorsports, faced early exits from Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race held at Michigan International Speedway.
The first setback occurred for Elliott, who lost control of his No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet due to a tire issue in Turn 2 of the 2-mile track. The car veered into the outside retaining wall, leading to significant damage. Although Elliott had been running in the ninth position among a 37-car field, the damage was irreparable, forcing him to head to the garage.
Following a check at the infield care center, Elliott commented, "Yeah, I feel good. I hate that it happened. It was really early in the day to have a tire blow like that. It was really weird. It’s a bummer, but not surprised."
His race was cut short, completing only 34 laps out of the scheduled 200. The FireKeepers Casino 400 was postponed to Monday due to persistent rain, further affecting his chances. With limited races remaining in the regular season, Elliott's aspiration for a spot in the Cup Series Playoffs hinges on a must-win scenario.
Byron encountered his own misfortune, adding to the team's challenges. In Stage 1, he grazed the outside wall while exiting Turn 4 on the final lap. Despite bringing the No. 24 Hendrick Chevy to pit road, the extent of the damage rendered the car unfit to continue, leading to an early end to his race.
Following his visit to the infield care center, Byron explained, "I just got loose trying to get stage points there. We were dicing it up. We didn’t have the best restart, so we were gaining spots back, but just tried too hard. We’ll just regroup and try to get a good couple of weeks before the playoffs. Just made a mistake — was just trying hard and got loose."
As the race concludes on Monday, Elliott will finish 36th and Byron will be placed 35th in the final standings. These challenges have significant implications on their standings, impacting Elliott's chances to enter the playoffs and Byron's pursuit of the regular season championship.
