Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, owners of Wrexham Football Club, have joined an investor group that will acquire a 24% equity stake in the Formula 1 team Alpine.
Renault, the parent company of Alpine, announced the involvement of the two Hollywood actors on Monday, alongside Otro Capital and RedBird Capital Partners.
The deal, valued at around £171 million (€200 million), establishes the worth of Alpine Racing, based in the UK, at approximately £706 million.
In the current Formula 1 constructors' championship, Alpine holds the fifth position.
Reynolds and McElhenney took over Wrexham in 2021, and the Welsh club achieved promotion back to the Football League after a 15-year absence by winning the National League title in April.
RedBird, a US investment firm, is an investor in Fenway Sports Group, which owns Premier League side Liverpool and the Boston Red Sox baseball team.
In August 2022, RedBird acquired Italian Serie A club AC Milan in a €1.2 billion deal and also holds a controlling stake in French Ligue 1 side Toulouse.
Alpine's CEO, Laurent Rossi, emphasized the significance of the association, stating that it is an important step toward improving the team's performance on all fronts.
He further explained that the investment would enhance Alpine's media profile, which in turn would support the team's long-term performance.
