Repsol and Honda will end their iconic MotoGP partnership after the 2024 season, marking the conclusion of a collaboration that lasted nearly three decades. The Spanish oil company began sponsoring Honda in 1995, and together they achieved significant success, winning multiple riders’ and constructors’ championships with legends like Mick Doohan, Valentino Rossi, and Marc Marquez. Their partnership resulted in 15 premier class world titles, 10 team championships, and a remarkable 183 race victories.
Honda announced the end of this era with a statement recognizing the partnership's significance, stating it went beyond traditional sponsorship and became a collaboration that set benchmarks in Grand Prix motorcycling. Despite the past successes, Honda has struggled to compete with Italian manufacturers Ducati and Aprilia in recent seasons, particularly after Marquez’s last title in 2019.
Marquez’s injury in 2020 and subsequent departure to Gresini Racing in 2023 further complicated Honda’s competitive standing. Following Marquez's exit, Red Bull also ended its association with Honda, and the team has yet to secure a top-10 finish this season with riders Joan Mir and Luca Marini.
The conclusion of the Repsol-Honda alliance signals the end of a golden era in MotoGP, as both companies now look ahead to new directions in their respective pursuits within the sport.
