Australian Remy Gardner will step in for the injured Cal Crutchlow at the upcoming British Grand Prix, as announced by Yamaha on Monday. The 26-year-old Gardner, son of 1987 world champion Wayne Gardner, previously served as a substitute for Yamaha's Alex Rins during the race in Germany on July 7.
Crutchlow, who retired from full-time racing at the end of the 2020 season, was set to be the only British rider competing in the top category at Silverstone. However, he has been forced to withdraw due to a hand injury that has not healed as anticipated.
"I had surgery on my hand two months ago, and the recovery has not gone as expected, leading to further surgery and complications," the 38-year-old team test rider explained. He emphasized the importance of allowing his hand to heal completely before attempting to ride the MotoGP bike.
Fortunately, Rins is expected to recover fully in time for the race at Silverstone, which will provide a boost for the Yamaha team as they prepare for the event.
