Red Bull announced on Thursday that their sporting director, Jonathan Wheatley, will be leaving his position at the end of the season. The 57-year-old Briton will enter a period of gardening leave before transitioning to the role of team principal at Audi, which plans to enter Formula One in 2026.
Wheatley joined Red Bull in 2006 and has been instrumental in the team's success, contributing to six constructors' titles and seven drivers' championships. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner praised Wheatley's long and successful tenure, highlighting his significant impact on the team's achievements.
In addition to Wheatley's departure, Red Bull's chief technical officer, Adrian Newey, is also set to leave at the end of the year. Despite these high-profile exits, Red Bull remains confident in their internal talent pool.
The team stated that they have "tremendous strength and depth" and are planning to elevate other members within the organization. Red Bull will announce their new team structure in the coming weeks.
