Red Bull Racing is in discussions with Ferrari's Carlos Sainz regarding a potential drive for the 2025 Formula One season, revealed the team's motorsport consultant, Helmut Marko.
Sainz, who will depart Ferrari at the end of the season to accommodate Lewis Hamilton's arrival, has attracted interest from Red Bull and Audi, with the latter offering a significantly more lucrative deal.
The 29-year-old, coming off a recent victory in Australia, remains open to all options and is taking his time to make a decision, as he considers his next career move.
Red Bull's interest in Sainz stems from the possibility of pairing him with Max Verstappen, recreating their successful partnership from their time at Toro Rosso in 2015-16, should Sergio Perez not have his contract renewed.
Marko acknowledged Sainz's strong season and expressed Red Bull's interest, albeit acknowledging Audi's substantial offer that Red Bull cannot match. Audi's entry into Formula One in 2026, with Sauber transitioning into their factory team, adds another dimension to Sainz's decision-making process.
While Sainz remains a prime target for Red Bull, Marko also praised Perez's performance, highlighting his improvements since joining the team in 2021. Perez's consistent performances, especially in qualifying, position him as a strong contender for the 2025 season alongside Verstappen.
Additionally, the return of Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo to the main Red Bull team has been speculated, but Marko noted that Ricciardo has yet to outpace his teammate Yuki Tsunoda, making his future with the team uncertain as they monitor his progress closely.
