Red Bull Faces Early Season Struggles After Verstappen's Disappointing Bahrain Finish

Posted : 15 April 2025

Red Bull’s early-season challenges have left the team searching for solutions after Max Verstappen, the four-time Formula One world champion, finished in sixth place at the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday. The team has been grappling with issues ranging from car setup balance to pit stop performance, all of which have raised concerns heading into the season.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko emphasized the urgency of addressing these problems, stating that improvements must come quickly to give Verstappen a car capable of competing for another world championship.

Verstappen, who dominated the 2023 season with 19 wins out of 22 races, is now facing a significant drop in performance compared to last year’s consistency. Despite his success, Red Bull lost the Constructors' Championship to McLaren last season due to persistent balance issues with their cars, a problem that seems to be continuing into this year.

According to reports, the solution to these troubles will take time and will likely require a long-term approach, which has added to the pressure surrounding the team’s current situation.

While Verstappen is under contract with Red Bull through 2028, there are reportedly clauses that could allow for a departure if necessary. The driver, who is currently third in the standings, posted on social media after the race that it had been a difficult weekend, struggling with the balance and overall pace of his car.

F1 analysts, including former driver Ralf Schumacher, have suggested that Verstappen might consider leaving Red Bull if the team’s struggles persist, particularly as McLaren leads the Constructors’ Championship and Verstappen sits behind McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in the drivers' standings.
