Pogacar set for 2025 Paris-Roubaix debut in big showdown.

Posted : 26 March 2025

UAE Team Emirates-XRG has officially confirmed that Tadej Pogacar will make his much-anticipated debut at Paris-Roubaix next month. Initially, the Slovenian cyclist had no plans to compete on the French cobbles, but a revised schedule will now see him participate in both the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. His last race was at Milano-Sanremo, where he closely contested victory but was ultimately edged out by Mathieu van der Poel. The announcement on Wednesday solidified his entry into one of cycling’s most challenging races.

Pogacar has previously avoided the unpredictable nature of the Paris-Roubaix cobbled sections, but earlier this year, a video of him riding the famous Arenberg section fueled speculation about his potential participation. Those speculations have now turned into reality, with his team adjusting his calendar to include the French Monument. This marks a significant shift in his approach, as he prepares to take on one of cycling’s toughest one-day races.

A statement from UAE Team Emirates-XRG clarified the decision, noting that Pogacar was initially set to compete in the E3 Saxo Classic and Gent-Wevelgem. However, after internal discussions, it was decided that he would instead prioritize the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. The goal behind this change is to have him in peak condition for these prestigious races, both of which demand exceptional endurance and skill.

Pogacar is no stranger to the Tour of Flanders, having won the race in 2023. He now aims to reclaim the title after narrowly missing victory at Milano-Sanremo. His recent performance in that event saw him locked in a thrilling battle with Mathieu van der Poel and Filippo Ganna, only to be beaten in a dramatic sprint finish. His hunger for redemption will be a driving force as he returns to Flanders in pursuit of another triumph.

The Slovenian’s impressive comeback victory at the 2023 Tour of Flanders proved his ability to master demanding one-day races. He will have another shot at victory on April 6, where he hopes to repeat his past success. Following that, he will set his sights on Paris-Roubaix, a race known for its brutal cobbled sections and grueling conditions. This will be an opportunity for him to add another prestigious Monument title to his growing list of accomplishments.

Defending Paris-Roubaix champion Mathieu van der Poel has dominated the race in recent years, winning back-to-back titles. However, Pogacar's inclusion in the lineup adds a new layer of excitement, as he looks to challenge the Dutchman and other top contenders. The 259.2km course will test his resilience, but his aggressive racing style and tactical awareness could make him a formidable opponent.

With Pogacar now set to compete in both the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix, cycling fans can expect two thrilling showdowns. His adaptability and relentless pursuit of victory make him one of the most exciting riders in the sport. All eyes will be on him as he prepares to take on the cobbles and prove himself in yet another historic race.
