Eight watches once owned by Formula One icon Michael Schumacher fetched a cumulative sum of four million Swiss francs (equivalent to 4.4 million dollars or 4.1 million euros) at an auction held in Geneva. Renowned for his passion for horology, the German racing legend amassed a notable collection of timepieces until a skiing accident in December 2013, after which he retreated from public view.
Among the notable pieces sold were two watches gifted to Schumacher by former Ferrari team principal Jean Todt, commemorating his remarkable achievements on the racing circuit with the Italian team. One standout item was an F.P. Journe Vagabondage, featuring a dial paying homage to Schumacher's seven Formula One world championship titles, which fetched 1,646,700 dollars. However, the most coveted piece, a vintage pink gold Patek Philippe, commanded the highest bid of 2,711,500 dollars.
Remi Guillemin, the watch specialist at Christie's auction house, expressed gratitude to both the consignors and the Schumacher family for entrusting them with the esteemed collection. He noted significant global interest in the auction, particularly from American collectors, underscoring the widespread admiration for Schumacher's legacy both on and off the racetrack.
