Martin, Marquez Debut New Bikes at Montmelo Testing

Jorge Martin, the newly-crowned MotoGP world champion, faced a fall while testing his Aprilia bike for the 2025 season at the traditional end-of-season testing in Montmelo on Tuesday. Just days after securing his first world title at the 2024 season finale, Martin took to the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit to try out his new bike, earning applause from thousands of fans. Despite a minor fall, he recorded the 11th fastest time, outpacing his new teammate, Marco Bezzecchi, who finished 13th.

 

The day’s best time was claimed by Alex Marquez of Ducati-Gresini, followed by Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo in second. However, the most anticipated moment was Marc Marquez’s debut on his new Ducati bike. The six-time world champion, who will be racing for Ducati in 2025 after leaving Honda, finished fourth fastest behind his new teammate, Francesco Bagnaia. Marquez expressed satisfaction with his new ride, saying he immediately felt comfortable with the bike and noticed significant improvements from the 2023 model.

 

In addition to the experienced riders, three MotoGP rookies took part in the testing, but all struggled with falls. Spaniard Fermin Aldeguer, Japan’s Ai Ogura, and Thailand’s Somkiat Chantra all ended up at the bottom of the timesheet, with Aldeguer in 20th, Ogura in 21st, and Chantra in 23rd. Despite their falls, the rookies were gaining valuable experience as they prepare for their debut seasons in 2025.

 

As the testing sessions wrapped up, it was clear that both seasoned stars and newcomers were eager to adjust to their new machinery ahead of the upcoming season. For Martin and Marquez, these tests mark the beginning of a new chapter in their MotoGP careers, with both aiming for strong performances in 2025 after successful years with their current teams.
