Marc Marquez delivered an impressive performance during Friday's practice session for the Thailand MotoGP, setting a new lap record with a time of 1 minute 29.165 seconds at the Buriram circuit. The six-time world champion, riding for Gresini Racing on a Ducati, secured the top spot ahead of championship rival Jorge Martin, who finished second, just 0.110 seconds behind. This marks a strong start to the weekend for Marquez, especially following his victory in Australia just a week prior.
In addition to Marquez and Martin, Enea Bastianini secured the third position, while Francesco Bagnaia, the two-time defending champion and another Ducati rider, came in fourth. The championship battle remains intense, with Martin holding a 20-point lead over Bagnaia in the standings. Marquez currently sits in third, trailing Martin by 79 points as the season enters its final stretch with only three races left.
Reflecting on his performance, Marquez expressed satisfaction with his pace, noting the importance of starting the weekend on a positive note. He acknowledged that in earlier parts of the season, Fridays were often challenging for him, but this time he felt more confident. "Now on Friday I’m already on a good pace. Tomorrow it will be difficult to improve the lap time – it's already a track record," he stated.
The top ten in afternoon practice also included notable riders such as Maverick Vinales, Franco Morbidelli, Pedro Acosta, Alex Marquez, Marco Bezzecchi, and Johann Zarco. All ten will advance directly to Saturday's second qualifying session, which is crucial for determining the grid positions for both the sprint race and the main event on Sunday. Following Thailand, the penultimate race weekend will take place in Malaysia, leading up to the final race in Valencia scheduled for mid-November.
