Marc Marquez Dominates Thai MotoGP for Perfect Ducati Debut

Posted : 03 March 2025

Marc Marquez delivered a flawless performance in the opening round of the 2025 MotoGP season, securing victory in the Thai Grand Prix to complete a dominant debut weekend with the factory Ducati team. After winning the sprint race on Saturday, the six-time world champion continued his momentum by taking pole position and leading much of the 26-lap race in Buriram.

He crossed the finish line 1.732 seconds ahead of his younger brother, Alex Marquez, who is still chasing his first MotoGP win, while reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia rounded out the podium in third place. The triumph marked Marquez’s 63rd MotoGP victory and gave him the maximum 37 points to begin the season.

Despite a brief moment of uncertainty when he slowed unexpectedly on lap seven, Marc Marquez quickly recovered and engaged in an intense battle with his brother for the lead. Alex, riding for Gresini Ducati, put up a strong defense, but Marc made his decisive move with four laps remaining, overtaking at Turn 12 before pulling away.

The race also saw a strong performance from Franco Morbidelli, who finished fourth, while MotoGP debutant Ai Ogura impressed with a fifth-place finish. Reflecting on his victory, Marquez described the weekend as a dream, while Alex admitted he struggled to manage tyre wear against his brother’s relentless pace.

The start of the season, however, has been clouded by the absence of reigning world champion Jorge Martin, who suffered multiple fractures in a testing crash in Malaysia. Adding to his woes, Martin encountered another setback during training, requiring further surgery, forcing him to miss the upcoming race in Argentina.

Meanwhile, the dynamic between Marquez and Bagnaia in the Ducati factory team has already sparked intrigue, with some predicting their competitive rivalry could lead to tension. Bagnaia acknowledged Marquez’s strength, admitting that despite his best efforts, the Spaniard had been toying with the competition throughout the race.
