Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world champion and Formula One’s most successful driver, began his journey with Ferrari on Monday, expressing that racing for the Italian team has been a dream come true.
After nearly a year since his surprising departure from Mercedes, where he claimed six of his seven titles, Hamilton officially joined Ferrari at their headquarters in Maranello. The 40-year-old shared his excitement on Instagram, stating that his first day with Ferrari was one he would always remember, as he finally fulfilled his long-held dream of driving in red.
Hamilton’s first day at Ferrari involved a seat fitting followed by time in the simulator, although due to adverse weather conditions, he is not expected to test the car at the Fiorano track until Wednesday. Official testing for the upcoming season will take place in Bahrain from February 26-28.
Despite a difficult 2024 season where he finished seventh overall—his worst result in terms of championship position—Hamilton managed to secure two race victories, breaking a two-year winless streak. His last championship win came in 2020.
This new chapter sees Hamilton partner with Charles Leclerc at Ferrari, replacing Carlos Sainz, who has moved to Williams. Ferrari has not won a driver's title since 2007, but Hamilton is hopeful for success with the iconic team, calling the start of his Ferrari career a new era. The 2025 Formula One season will kick off with the Australian Grand Prix from March 14-16, where Hamilton and Leclerc will aim to bring Ferrari back to championship contention.
