Charles Leclerc praised Ferrari's effective race strategy that allowed him to finish fifth in the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, bouncing back from a challenging qualifying session the day before. Both Leclerc and teammate Carlos Sainz started from the ninth and tenth positions, respectively, after Sainz crashed during Q3, while Leclerc's only qualifying lap was disqualified due to exceeding track limits.
Despite the difficult starting positions on the notoriously tricky Marina Bay Circuit, Sainz managed to secure seventh place, contributing valuable points to Ferrari's campaign as they aim to close the gap to McLaren and Red Bull in the Formula One constructors' championship. Currently, McLaren leads with 516 points, followed by Red Bull at 475, while Ferrari remains competitive with 441 points.
Leclerc expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, stating, "We maximised our potential today and our race execution was really good." He remains in contention for the drivers' title, sitting third in the standings, 34 points behind second-placed Lando Norris and 85 points off the lead held by Max Verstappen, with six races and three sprints remaining in the season.
Sainz reflected on the team's approach, noting, "We took a risk by pitting very early, but we made it work to the end, gaining some positions." While he acknowledged the disappointment of the weekend, he emphasized the importance of maximizing their points in the upcoming races, stating, "There are still a lot of points in play."
