Lawrence Stroll hopes to see Lance and Alonso on podium at Canadian Grand Prix

Lawrence Stroll, owner of the Aston Martin team, expressed his hope to see both his son Lance and Fernando Alonso on the podium at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal this weekend, despite Red Bull's dominant performance.
Red Bull has won all seven Formula One races this season, with Max Verstappen, the double world champion and last year's winner of the Canadian GP, claiming five victories, and Sergio Perez securing two.
While Alonso has achieved five podium finishes in 2023, Stroll, who began the season with broken wrists due to a cycling accident, outperformed him in Barcelona two weeks ago.
Speaking at an Aston Martin flagship event in New York, Stroll senior informed Reuters that the objective is to witness a Canadian driver on the podium at Montreal for the first time since Jacques Villeneuve finished second in 1996.
"That's exactly the plan. Hopefully, we can get two cars on the podium," he stated.
Stroll expressed high confidence, believing that their car will perform strongly at the Montreal circuit as it suits their vehicle well. He eagerly anticipates returning home and expects an exciting race.
Following the Spanish Grand Prix, where Stroll and Alonso finished sixth and seventh respectively and struggled with higher-than-expected tire wear, Mercedes overtook Aston Martin in the overall standings. Aston Martin employs Mercedes engines in their cars.
Mercedes' seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, secured second place in Spain and boasts an impressive track record in Canada. Hamilton has won a record-equalling seven times at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, and it was at this venue in 2007 where he claimed his first victory of his illustrious career, marking the beginning of his 103 career wins.
