Lando Norris Holds Slim Lead Over Max Verstappen as Bahrain Grand Prix Approaches

Posted : 10 April 2025

Lando Norris holds a narrow lead over Max Verstappen heading into this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix, with just one point separating the two drivers. Verstappen, a four-time world champion, has been steadily closing the gap after a dominant performance in Japan, where he clinched pole and managed to fend off McLaren's challenge.

Having won the last two races in Bahrain, Verstappen arrives with strong confidence, aiming for a third consecutive win at the desert circuit. Despite Red Bull's car still not reaching its full potential, Verstappen is eager to make the most of Bahrain's traditionally favorable conditions.

Ferrari, meanwhile, are facing challenges as they try to resolve issues with their SF-25 car. After a disappointing start to the season, which included a double disqualification in China, the Scuderia is focused on improving their performance for the Bahrain race.

Charles Leclerc’s fourth-place finish in Japan was a step in the right direction, but team principal Fred Vasseur acknowledged that there’s still much work to do in order to extract more from the car. Ferrari's primary goal now is to maximize their qualifying and race performance in Sakhir.

Mercedes have been impressed with their 18-year-old driver Kimi Antonelli, who has exceeded expectations since replacing the legendary Lewis Hamilton. Antonelli has already made history by becoming the youngest driver in F1 to lead a race, as well as the youngest to claim a fastest lap.

Despite still being a teenager and balancing racing with schoolwork, Antonelli has shown remarkable consistency, sitting fifth in the standings and leading the pack of rookie drivers in the 2025 season.

As the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend kicks off, a number of rising stars will also get their chance to shine during Friday's practice session. Ferrari academy driver Dino Beganovic will step into Charles Leclerc’s seat for the opening practice, while other young talents like Frederik Vesti (Mercedes) and Ryo Hirakawa (Haas) will take part as well.

Meanwhile, the Bahrain circuit, built on a former camel farm, continues to provide a unique racing experience, with the track’s specially applied adhesive ensuring minimal sand disruption despite the desert surroundings.
