Jos Verstappen Warns Red Bull Racing of Impending Crisis Amid Staff Departures

Posted : 02 October 2024

Three-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen's father, Jos, has raised alarms about Red Bull Racing's recent employee departures, warning that the team's instability could lead to serious consequences. Notable figures such as chief strategist Will Courtenay, sporting director Jonathan Wheatley, and design expert Adrian Newey have left the team, prompting Jos Verstappen to express his concerns regarding the leadership of team principal Christian Horner. He emphasized that the current situation is untenable, stating, "It can't go on this way. It will explode."

Despite Max Verstappen still leading the F1 drivers' standings and being in contention for a fourth consecutive world championship, recent performance issues have raised eyebrows. He has not won a race in the last eight attempts, and his once-comfortable lead has dwindled to 52 points over Lando Norris, with only six races left in the season. This decline in form has only added to the scrutiny faced by the team, with Jos noting that his son is frequently questioned about the situation.

Jos Verstappen further criticized the team's management, suggesting that Red Bull is downplaying the impact of these departures by believing they can easily replace key personnel. "It's too many people now leaving," he remarked, underscoring the detrimental effect this might have on the team's morale and performance. He believes that the ongoing instability is detrimental to the team's future and calls for a reassessment of the current leadership dynamics.
