Jorge Martin triumphs in rain-affected Japanese MotoGP as title race intensifies

Spain's Jorge Martin secured a memorable victory at the rain-affected Japanese MotoGP, capping off a superb weekend. Martin, riding for Pramac Racing, had set a new lap record during qualifying to secure pole position and also won the sprint race on Saturday.

During Sunday's grand prix, heavy rain prompted a red flag at half-distance. Martin was leading at the time, moving him within three points of the championship leader, Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia, who finished second. Honda's Marc Marquez claimed the third spot on the podium.
 
Rainfall began on the opening lap, leading to the display of a white flag, allowing riders to switch to bikes better suited for the wet conditions. Despite an early mistake, Martin worked his way back through the field to regain the lead.

Unfortunately, a crash involving his teammate Johann Zarco triggered another red flag, prompting race officials to abandon the restart and award full points.
 
Reflecting on his performance, Martin stated, "I was committed to achieving a great result today. I went wide [early on], but then I started to recover positions. I felt good and was able to overtake many riders. Fortunately, everyone is okay, but continuing the race would have been too dangerous."
 
With six rounds remaining in the MotoGP championship, the next race is scheduled for October 15th in Indonesia.
