MotoGP champion Jorge Martin is poised to make his debut with Aprilia at this weekend's Qatar Grand Prix, provided he passes a medical check, according to the team.
Martin, who clinched last year's MotoGP title with Ducati, has been sidelined since pre-season testing due to multiple fractures from a crash that required surgery, causing him to miss the first three rounds of the season.
"I’m excited to return to the track and happy to at least have the chance to race in Qatar," Martin expressed.
"Physically, I'm uncertain if I'll be able to finish the race, but if I do, it will feel like a victory, as it would mean I'm starting to recover. We need to take things one step at a time in order to regain our normal level as soon as possible."
With Martin absent, Alex Marquez from Gresini Racing has taken the lead in the standings, while his brother, Marc Marquez from Ducati, holds second place after winning two of the season's first three rounds.
