Joe Gibbs Racing unveiled its 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series driver roster, featuring Chandler Smith and Sheldon Creed as full-time racers. With John-Hunter Nemechek's promotion to the Cup Series and Sammy Smith's departure, there were openings for the 2024 season.
The team, known for its successful Xfinity cars, welcomed Chandler Smith back to Toyota after a stint with Kaulig Racing. Smith, finishing 9th in the 2023 standings, secured his first Xfinity Series victory at Richmond.
The No. 81 Toyota Supra will be driven by Chandler Smith, with Jeff Meendering as his crew chief. Smith, a Truck Series contender, also made an impressive NASCAR Cup debut with consistent top-20 finishes.
Sheldon Creed, joining from Richard Childress Racing, takes the wheel of the No. 18 Toyota Supra, formerly driven by Sammy Smith. Creed, a Truck Series champion with eight victories, brings his competitive edge to Joe Gibbs Racing.
Aric Almirola, confirmed for a part-time role in the No. 20 car, will share driving duties with others, including Nemechek for select races. The experienced Almirola, with 460 Cup races and three Cup-level victories, adds depth to the roster.
Nemechek, returning for select races, enjoyed a successful 2023 season with seven wins and a fourth-place championship finish. Tyler Allen will serve as the crew chief for the No. 20 car, partnering with Almirola and Nemechek.
