Jack Doohan appears set to retain his seat at Alpine Racing for now, despite a challenging start to his rookie Formula One season. Reports had suggested the team was considering replacing him with reserve driver Franco Colapinto after six races, but with only four Grand Prix completed in 2025, no changes are imminent.
The speculation was fueled by Doohan’s first-lap crash at the Australian Grand Prix and multiple penalties at the Chinese Grand Prix, along with another incident during practice in Japan.
Despite these early struggles, the 22-year-old Australian showed signs of improvement at the Bahrain Grand Prix, where he qualified 11th and maintained a solid race pace before finishing 14th.
While the result did not yield points, it was a more composed performance compared to previous outings and may have helped ease some of the pressure surrounding his future with the team.
Alpine team principal Oliver Oakes praised Doohan’s progress, noting that the young driver is learning quickly under the scrutiny that comes with being a newcomer in Formula One. Oakes acknowledged the difficulty of earning recognition as a rookie but expressed confidence that Doohan would gain momentum following his showing in Bahrain.
