Hendrick Motorsports Eyes Victory at Watkins Glen with Strong Lineup

Posted : 15 September 2024

In Sunday's Go Bowling at the Glen at Watkins Glen International, all eyes are likely to be on Hendrick Motorsports, which has a strong presence with four competitive cars. This iconic 11-turn track in upstate New York, known for its unique right-hand turns, will test the drivers as the second race in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs. Hendrick Motorsports has a notable track record here, with one of their cars winning the last five Cup Series races at the Glen.

The race’s placement in the NASCAR postseason is a temporary fixture, as it will be held on August 10, 2025, just before the regular season concludes at Daytona. The playoffs will start the following week with the Southern 500 at Darlington. Hendrick Motorsports' drivers have adapted well to the Glen's challenging layout and other road courses throughout their successful careers.

Among the Hendrick drivers, Alex Bowman has faced challenges on unique tracks. Despite his one significant win on the Chicago Street Course that propelled him into the playoffs, he has yet to achieve a top finish at the Glen. He managed a fourth-place start in Saturday's qualifying, while Ross Chastain secured the pole position with a time of 1:12.130.

Chase Elliott, a standout road-course racer with seven career wins on such tracks, including the Glen in 2018 and 2019, is a major contender. He finished 14th in qualifying and is looking to close in on the record for the most road-course victories. Kyle Larson, who has won two of the past three races at the Glen, needs a strong performance to solidify his place in the playoffs, especially after a disappointing finish at Atlanta. William Byron, with an 11th-place start in qualifying, is also aiming to make a strong impression as the playoffs progress.
