Lewis Hamilton is set to race the final three grands prix of his Mercedes career after sparking speculation about his future following a challenging performance at the Brazilian Grand Prix earlier this month. The seven-time world champion, who is moving to Ferrari next season, has been preparing for the upcoming Las Vegas Grand Prix at Mercedes' factory, where he has been using the simulator. The team confirmed that Hamilton will also hold his regular pre-race media duties ahead of the weekend's event.
Hamilton's performance at the Brazilian Grand Prix was one of the most disappointing of his illustrious career, finishing in 10th place. Over the radio, he expressed his frustration, calling it "the worst the car has ever been," and thanked his team for their efforts, particularly during the pit stops. His cryptic radio message led some to speculate that he might consider ending his tenure with Mercedes earlier than planned, even with three races still remaining.
However, in a statement released ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff clarified that the focus remains on finishing the season strong. "We are focused on ending this year as strongly as possible and providing some more highlights as we close out 2024," Wolff said, emphasizing the team's commitment to finishing their journey with Hamilton on a high note and building momentum for the 2025 season.
While Hamilton has had a challenging year, with just two race wins and currently sitting seventh in the drivers' standings, he remains determined to finish the season on a positive note. Max Verstappen of Red Bull is on the verge of securing his fourth consecutive world championship title, but Hamilton's eyes are still on securing a strong result in his final races with Mercedes, as he aims to close out his time with the team with a memorable performance.
