Haas has appointed Laura Mueller as the first female race engineer in Formula One as part of a restructuring of their race operations team. The German engineer, previously a performance engineer, will now work with Esteban Ocon, the newly recruited driver for the team.
In addition, Carine Cridelich will join as head of strategy, transitioning from Red Bull's Racing Bulls team. These appointments are part of Haas's efforts to strengthen their team after finishing seventh in the constructors' championship last season.
Mueller's new role will see her work closely with Ocon, focusing on the setup and performance of the car, and maintaining communications with the driver during races. Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu praised Mueller's work ethic and determination, emphasizing that her appointment was based solely on her qualifications, not her gender.
Komatsu made it clear that Haas values the ability to maximize team performance, regardless of nationality or gender.
Alongside Mueller's appointment, Haas has also made other key personnel changes, including the hiring of Francesco Nenci as chief engineer and Mark Lowe as sporting director. Cridelich will join the team in March, and Komatsu highlighted that finding a suitable head of strategy had been a long search.
The changes are intended to address weaknesses in Haas's trackside operations from the previous season, with the team aiming for improved performance in the upcoming Formula One season, starting with pre-season testing in Bahrain at the end of February.
