Franz Tost: Laurent Mekies from Ferrari will replace Alpha Tauri's team principal

Laurent Mekies, the sports director for Ferrari, will take over as team leader of Red Bull's Alpha Tauri team from Franz Tost at the conclusion of this season.

The governing body's racing secretary general and former F1 executive director Peter Bayer will lead the team as its CEO.

The modifications, according to Alpha Tauri, were made to secure long-term stability and ensure continuation.

Tost, 67, will continue to serve as a consultant through the end of the 2024 campaign.

Alpha Tauri did not specify the dates that Mekies or Bayer would begin in their new positions, although providing a date for the Austrian's departure.

After Christian Horner of Red Bull, Tost is the team's team principal with the second-longest tenure in Formula One. He has been in command since Red Bull acquired the former Minardi team and changed its name to Toro Rosso.

With the intention of serving as a training ground for eventual Red Bull drivers, the team was founded. With Sebastian Vettel and Pierre Gasly, they won the 2008 and 2020 Italian Grands Prix, respectively.

Max Verstappen, a two-time world champion, and Daniel Ricciardo, an eight-time champion, are other drivers who have advanced from the team to a full Red Bull seat.
