The 2024 MotoGP lineup is taking shape as Prima Pramac has officially announced Franco Morbidelli as their rider alongside Jorge Martin for the upcoming season. Morbidelli, who had lost his seat at Yamaha to Alex Rins from LCR Honda, will make his return to the premier motorcycle racing class with a new team.
Franco Morbidelli, the 2017 Moto2 GP champion, had a standout season in MotoGP in 2020, securing a career-best second place. However, his performance in the previous year was disappointing, finishing 19th, and in the current 2023 standings, he holds the 12th position with 68 points.
Team principal Paolo Campinoti of Prima Pramac expressed his delight at Morbidelli joining their team for the 2024 season. He highlighted their excellent relationship and Morbidelli's championship-winning abilities, expressing confidence that Morbidelli will have the right environment within their team to compete for the positions he deserves.
The MotoGP season will resume on September 22 with the Grand Prix of India. Morbidelli's future teammate, Jorge Martin, is currently in second place in the Championship standings with 247 points, trailing world champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) who has 283 points.
Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46) occupies the third position with 218 points. Martin recently secured victory in the San Marino Grand Prix on September 10, narrowly beating Bezzecchi and Bagnaia to the finish line.
