Formula 1 has unveiled the lineup of six grands prix set to feature sprint events in the 2025 season. These sprints, comprising a shorter race on Saturday ahead of the main Sunday event, will kick off at China's second grand prix of the season on 21-23 March. Miami, Belgium, Austin, Brazil, and Qatar will also host sprint events, continuing a trend initiated this year.
Belgium, having previously hosted a sprint in 2023, joins the roster of venues set to deliver intensified racing action next season. The 2025 F1 season will commence in Australia on 14-16 March, setting the stage for a year highlighted by these innovative sprint formats.
F1's decision is supported by data showing increased audience engagement during sprint events compared to traditional race weekends. Live viewership for qualifying sprints in China this year surpassed average figures from practice sessions across F1's top 15 markets during the opening races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, indicating a positive reception among fans.
Stefano Domenicali, F1 chairman, emphasized the sprint's popularity and its role in enhancing race weekend excitement. The format, which separates sprints from the main grand prix, has been deemed successful in bringing new dynamism while respecting the championship's heritage. Plans for 2025 maintain the current sprint structure introduced this season, with discussions ongoing for potential future enhancements to further elevate the sport's appeal.
