On Tuesday, the FIA confirmed that Formula One will maintain its current points system, rejecting the proposal to award points to more finishers beyond the top ten. This decision follows a previous deferral in April by the Formula One commission, which comprises teams and key stakeholders, on whether to expand the points distribution.
The FIA announced that after a recent meeting in London, chaired by Formula One CEO Stefano Domenicali and FIA single-seater director Nikolas Tombazis, the commission unanimously agreed to keep the existing system. This decision reflects the consensus among stakeholders and aims to maintain consistency in how points are awarded.
In the current season, with 13 of 24 races completed, all teams except Sauber have scored points. The leading four teams are significantly ahead of the rest, with Aston Martin, Red Bull, and Haas forming a second-tier group in fifth to seventh place, while the remaining teams trail far behind.
Additionally, the meeting decided to increase the minimum weight for car and driver by 2kg to enhance driver safety. Looking ahead, pre-season testing for 2026 will be expanded to nine test days, scheduled across three separate events.
