Ferrari's Frederic Vasseur Says Red Bull's Budget Cap Penalty is Quite Small
Posted : 17 April 2023
Red Bull's great start to the season, according to Ferrari, is partially because to their receiving a "very light" penalty for exceeding Formula 1's budget cap.
Red Bull did a "really nice job," according to Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur, but the fine they received in October was "extremely minimal."
Red Bull received a $7 million (£6.07 million) fine and a one-year 10% decrease in their allowed aerodynamic research.
The fine was imposed for exceeding the sport's financial limit by £1.86 million in 2021.
Red Bull has dominated the 2023 season thus far, winning each of the three races.
"I am still convinced the penalty was very light," remarked Vasseur in a news conference on Thursday.
Christian Horner, the head of Red Bull Racing, called the punishment quite draconian and extremely punitive at the time.
