Ferrari announced on Thursday that Loic Serra, a former engineer from Mercedes, will join their Formula 1 team as the new technical director. The 52-year-old French engineer, who will officially start on October 1st, will be taking over from Enrico Cardile, who left Ferrari to assume a senior technical role at Aston Martin earlier this year.
In his new position, Serra will oversee the chassis department and report directly to team principal Fred Vasseur. His appointment marks a significant shift in Ferrari's technical leadership, as Serra brings over a decade of experience from Mercedes, where he was instrumental in their success.
Serra's move to Ferrari sets the stage for an interesting reunion with Lewis Hamilton, who is set to join the team for the 2025 season. Meanwhile, Enrico Gaultieri will continue to serve as Ferrari's technical director for the power unit side, ensuring continuity in that area of the team’s operations.
