Italian rider Fabio Di Giannantonio will be sidelined for the last two MotoGP races of the season due to shoulder surgery, as confirmed by his Ducati-VR46 team on Thursday. Di Giannantonio, who is currently ranked 10th in the championship standings, dislocated his left shoulder during a high-speed crash at the Austrian Grand Prix in August but has persevered through the injury.
Before undergoing surgery, Di Giannantonio is scheduled to compete in the Australian Grand Prix this weekend, followed by the Thailand race. However, he will have to return home afterward to undergo the procedure, which will prevent him from participating in the season-ending races in Malaysia and Valencia.
Expressing his disappointment, Di Giannantonio remarked that he had hoped to finish the season in Valencia with his team and then take the necessary time for surgery and recovery. He acknowledged that the demanding race calendar and the short winter break left little room for error, emphasizing the importance of being in top physical shape for the start of the 2025 season.
Di Giannantonio achieved significant milestones last year, including his first podium finish in Australia and a victory in Qatar, marking a promising start to his MotoGP career.
