Ducati's Enea Bastianini claimed victory in the Thai MotoGP sprint race on Saturday, with championship contenders Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia finishing in second and third, respectively. The result allowed Martin, riding for Ducati Pramac, to extend his championship lead over Bagnaia to 22 points ahead of the main grand prix scheduled for Sunday in Buriram.
Starting from pole position, two-time defending champion Bagnaia experienced a tumultuous opening lap that saw the lead shift several times. Amid the chaos, Bastianini capitalized on the situation and emerged at the front. In challenging heat, Martin, who began the race in third, managed to get ahead of Bagnaia, while Bastianini steadily increased his lead over Martin, with Bagnaia trailing but unable to mount a challenge.
Finishing in fourth place was six-time world champion Marc Marquez, who had recently secured a victory in Australia, followed by his brother Alex. With another 25 points available in Sunday’s grand prix, the championship race continues to heat up as the penultimate race weekend of the season approaches, culminating in the finale in Valencia in mid-November.
