Enea Bastianini established himself as a formidable contender at the Indonesia MotoGP with a stunning record lap during Friday's practice, increasing his chances of closing the gap on championship leader Jorge Martin. Competing in the humid conditions at the Mandalika track on Lombok Island, Martin initially set an all-time lap record, but Bastianini quickly surpassed it, clocking an impressive 1:29.630 seconds.
Reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia finished just 0.082 seconds behind Bastianini, placing fourth as he aims to reduce his 24-point deficit to Martin in the riders' standings with six race weekends remaining. Meanwhile, Bastianini and Marc Marquez of Gresini Racing find themselves trailing Martin by 59 and 60 points, respectively, with Marquez securing seventh place in the final practice session.
While Red Bull GasGas rider Pedro Acosta managed to recover from a slide off the track to finish in the top 10, ensuring his place in Saturday’s second round of qualifying, Aprilia’s Miguel Oliveira faced a setback, fracturing his right wrist in the morning session and raising concerns about his participation in the upcoming Japan MotoGP. The top 10 fastest practice times secure their spots in Saturday's qualifying session, which determines the grid for both the sprint race and the main event GP on Sunday, with a total of 37 points up for grabs.
