Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix trophies and pole position award raised £245,000 at auction
Posted : 13 June 2023
The cancelled Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix's four podium trophies and Pirelli pole position award have fetched over £245,000 in an auction.
The race was called off due to safety concerns caused by severe flooding in the Italian region. All the proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Agency for Territorial Safety and Civil Protection to assist the affected communities.
The items were signed by all Formula 1 drivers on the 2023 grid. The auction, facilitated by F1 Authentics, included the official sparkling wine bottle from Ferrari Trento, although the company is not affiliated with the Italian F1 team.
Pirelli motorsport director Mario Isola expressed gratitude for the F1 community's generosity and highlighted the long-lasting impact of the flooding on the region's population.
Formula 1 and Ferrari had previously donated 1 million euros (£870,000) to the flood relief efforts after heavy rainfall claimed nine lives in just 36 hours.
