Dutch Grand Prix: Ferrari faces challenge in 2025 Formula 1 season, Red Bull plans to dominate races

Posted : 25 August 2023
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc believes it will be a significant challenge to catch up with Red Bull before the end of the 2025 Formula 1 season, when the current regulations are set to change. Red Bull has dominated the races, winning all of them this year, and Max Verstappen aims for his ninth consecutive victory.

Leclerc, who secured one of the two non-Red Bull pole positions this season, expressed that Red Bull's considerable lead makes it extremely tough to catch them before the regulation change. The current F1 rules were introduced last year, and Red Bull's performance has been notably strong.

The next significant rule change is planned for 2026, introducing new aerodynamic regulations, revised engines with increased hybrid power, and sustainable synthetic fuels. Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes acknowledged that Red Bull might already be ahead in developing next year's car due to their current lead in the championship.

Hamilton stated that Mercedes is working to narrow the gap, with next year being a testament to their efforts. Verstappen, aiming for a record-equalling ninth win in a row at his home race, expressed excitement about performing in front of Dutch fans and downplayed any pressure or distractions.

While many expect Verstappen to win most of the remaining races, Hamilton and other drivers are hopeful of challenging him if opportunities arise. McLaren's Lando Norris acknowledges the need for luck or reliability issues on Red Bull's part for other teams to secure victories. Norris mentioned that while Red Bull excels in races due to their minimal tire degradation, qualifying could be a closer competition.

Leclerc emphasized the differences in Red Bull's performance between qualifying and races. Despite closer gaps in qualifying, Red Bull's race pace advantage remains substantial. He highlighted ongoing efforts to improve, with upcoming developments that could bring significant progress. Leclerc noted that minor changes to these sensitive cars can yield significant effects and expressed optimism for the team's performance in the races ahead.
