Christopher Bell Secures Back-to-Back Wins with Victory at COTA

Posted : 03 March 2025

Christopher Bell continued his strong start to the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season, securing back-to-back victories after winning the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver overtook Kyle Busch with five laps remaining and held off William Byron to claim his 11th career Cup Series win.

Bell, who also triumphed in Atlanta the previous weekend, became the first driver since Kevin Harvick in 2018 to win two of the season’s first three races. His victory came despite a late-race challenge, where he admitted to making some of his "sloppiest laps" while trying to maintain the lead.

Kyle Busch led a race-high 42 laps and finished fifth in his attempt to break a lengthy winless streak, while pole-sitter Tyler Reddick and Chase Elliott secured top-five finishes. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Connor Zilisch, making his NASCAR Cup Series debut, had a challenging day after a crash on Lap 51 sent him to a last-place finish.

Despite his early exit, Zilisch reflected positively on his experience, highlighting the excitement of racing against drivers he admired while growing up. The race’s opening lap saw immediate drama, as Ross Chastain’s aggressive move into Turn 1 triggered a chain reaction, spinning Elliott and causing damage to Denny Hamlin and Zilisch.

The race featured several lead changes and strategic gambles, with Bubba Wallace opting not to pit and winning Stage 1, while Ryan Preece claimed Stage 2 ahead of Ryan Blaney and Michael McDowell. In the final stage, Shane van Gisbergen and Busch battled for control before Bell made his decisive move.

Daniel Suarez’s race ended in a crash with his Trackhouse Racing teammate Zilisch on the final stage’s first lap, marking the third caution of the event. With this latest victory, Bell reinforced his early-season dominance and positioned himself as a strong contender for the 2025 championship.
