In a closely contested qualifying session for the United States Grand Prix, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc secured pole position. He outpaced McLaren's Lando Norris by a mere 0.130 seconds, with Lewis Hamilton close behind, trailing by just 0.009 seconds in third place.
The session took a dramatic turn for Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who initially set the fastest time on his final lap but had it deleted due to a track limits violation, ultimately landing him in sixth place. The fourth and fifth positions went to Ferrari's Carlos Sainz and Mercedes' George Russell.
Leclerc's impressive performance earned him his third pole position of the year, with previous successes in Azerbaijan and for the sprint races in Belgium and Baku. His dominance was evident as he topped the time sheets in the second session and continued this trend during both runs in the final top 10 shootout.
Leclerc credited his improved performance to a recent upgrade introduced by Ferrari in Japan, which allowed him to adjust the car to his preferred setup and feel more comfortable.
Despite a significant upgrade on his Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton clinched the third position and praised the Circuit of the Americas in Texas, highlighting it as a beloved track among drivers.
He recognized the improvements made by his team and expressed optimism for even more significant upgrades in the future. George Russell, who placed fifth, felt he had been off the pace throughout the day but was content with his performance given the circumstances.
The qualifying session set the stage for an exciting United States Grand Prix, with the front-runners closely matched and the potential for intense battles during the race.
