Canadian Grand Prix: F1 has assured the Canadian Grand Prix is not at risk due to wildfires
Posted : 09 June 2023
Formula 1 has assured that the Canadian Grand Prix is "not at risk" despite the wildfires causing air-quality issues in North America. While the smoke originates from Quebec, the province where the Montreal race will take place, F1 has been informed that the situation in Montreal differs from other affected areas in the country and the US.
F1 stated that the risk remains low and the air quality in Montreal is good. The organizers have been in discussions with the race promoter and Canadian authorities, and F1 personnel responsible for security and health and safety are already in Canada preparing for the event.
Currently, there are no concerns about holding the race, but F1 will continue to monitor the situation closely. The Canadian Grand Prix takes place on Ile Notre-Dame, an island in the St Lawrence Seaway near downtown Montreal.
This development comes shortly after F1 canceled the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix due to severe flooding in northern Italy.
