Alpine team principal, Laurent Rossi praises Aston Martin's grid improvement, shifting Formula 1 expectations
Posted : 27 June 2023
According to Alpine team principal Laurent Rossi, Aston Martin's significant improvement on the grid this year has served as a "reality check" for his own team. Rossi acknowledges that Aston Martin's remarkable jump from seventh place last year to second place this year has shifted perceptions regarding what is achievable in Formula 1.
To help Alpine accelerate their progress towards the front of the field, Rossi highlights a £171 million investment, which includes actor Ryan Reynolds among the group of investors.
However, he concedes that Aston Martin's advancements have made it challenging for Alpine to achieve their stated goal for this season.
Alpine had aimed to secure fourth place again while closing the gap to the top three teams. Yet, after eight races, Alpine finds themselves in fifth place in the constructors' championship, while Aston Martin currently holds the third spot.
Fernando Alonso's strong performances and Aston Martin's significant car design improvements have contributed to their success, whereas Alpine drivers Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly currently sit in ninth and tenth place, respectively, in the drivers' championship standings.
