Young Boys manager to address shirt swap between captain and Erling Haaland
Posted : 08 November 2023
Young Boys manager Raphael Wicky has expressed his intention to address the matter of captain Mohamed Ali Camara swapping shirts with Manchester City striker Erling Haaland during half-time of their 3-0 defeat.
The incident took place when Young Boys were trailing 2-0, with Haaland and Phil Foden having scored for City. Wicky, initially unaware of the shirt exchange, stated, "I didn't see that, that's news to me. I'm a little bit surprised about that right now."
The Swiss side found themselves two goals down after Haaland's penalty and Foden's strike in the first half when Camara requested Haaland's shirt at the break. Although Haaland seemed reluctant, he handed over his shirt as the players headed for the tunnel. Haaland later scored another goal in the second half, solidifying City's flawless start to their Champions League campaign.
Wicky, while acknowledging that the incident may not have impacted the game, expressed his intention to discuss it with the player. He noted that perhaps Haaland had initiated the request for the shirt. However, as Haaland scored a remarkable goal from outside the penalty area, McCoist humorously remarked that Camara should ask for Haaland's jersey after that display.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola appeared less concerned about the matter, emphasizing that it wasn't a major issue for him. Haaland has now scored four goals in four European games this season, further adding to his impressive record of 39 goals in 34 Champions League appearances.
With four consecutive wins, City has made a perfect start to their title defense, and they have already secured a spot in the round of 16. The remaining games will determine the group's top spot, with FK Crvena Zvezda and Young Boys competing for a place in the Europa League with a point separating them.
