After achieving great success with Edo Queens, Super Falcons forward Folashade Ijamilusi is now embarking on a new chapter of her career abroad. The talented 22-year-old has signed a two-year contract with Liaoning Baiye, a club in China’s Women’s Super League.
Ijamilusi’s move to the Chinese side comes as the team looks to bolster its squad in preparation for the new season. This transfer marks her first venture into international football, following a highly productive spell with Edo Queens, where she established herself as one of Nigeria's brightest young talents.
The move was made possible through the efforts of FIFA-licensed agent Ayodele Thomas, who facilitated Ijamilusi’s transition to the Chinese league. Having achieved significant success with Edo Queens, including their first-ever Nigerian Women’s Football League (NWFL) title, Ijamilusi is now set to take her talents to Asia.
During her time at Edo Queens, Ijamilusi was central to the team’s success, playing a vital role in their historic title win. Her ability to score consistently was a major factor in their league triumph, and she also helped propel the club to an impressive continental campaign, reaching the semi-finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Ijamilusi’s achievements in the NWFL were notable, with the striker finishing as the league’s top scorer last season. She scored eight goals, a tally that contributed significantly to Edo Queens’ maiden league title. In addition to her domestic success, Ijamilusi was instrumental in the club’s regional triumph, lifting the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League trophy in Côte d’Ivoire.
Her continental performances were equally impressive, with Ijamilusi making an immediate impact in the CAF Women’s Champions League. She scored in the team’s 3-0 win against CBE FC in the group stage and was a key player throughout the competition, though Edo Queens’ journey ended with a semi-final loss to TP Mazembe.
Ijamilusi’s remarkable form earned her a call-up to the Super Falcons, where she continued to shine. In her debut match for Nigeria, she delivered a stunning hat-trick against Algeria, helping her team secure a dominant 4-1 victory. This performance further solidified her status as one of Nigeria’s most promising footballers.
