Bayern Munich defender Josip Stanisic admitted it was "stupid" of him to shove a ball boy during stoppage time of their Champions League clash against Inter Milan on Wednesday. The incident occurred as Stanisic rushed to retrieve the ball for a quick restart, only to be met with resistance when the ball boy deliberately threw it away, prompting the push.
The tense moment unfolded late in the match as Bayern searched desperately for a decisive goal. Although the game ended in a 2-2 draw at the San Siro, Inter Milan progressed to the semifinals with a 4-3 aggregate victory. Stanisic’s reaction triggered an angry response from Inter's bench, though the referee chose not to take disciplinary action against him.
Speaking after the match to German outlet Abendzeitung, Stanisic acknowledged his mistake, stating, “Every team wastes time when they’re ahead. It was a bit stupid of me to push him there.” The defender’s apology highlights the high emotions in a crucial European tie, even as Bayern’s campaign came to an end.
