Marcus Rashford will be absent for Manchester United's upcoming Premier League match against Liverpool at Anfield due to illness, as confirmed by head coach Ruben Amorim. The 27-year-old forward, who has been sidelined for the past four matches, was included on the bench for their recent 2-0 loss to Newcastle United but did not make an appearance.
United have struggled with form, recording five losses in their last six league games, and are currently 14th in the standings with 22 points from 19 matches. This marks their worst calendar year finish since 1989, when they ended up 15th. Amorim clarified that Rashford is currently ill and not participating in training, which will prevent him from playing against Liverpool.
Rashford's absence follows a series of challenges for the forward, including his exclusion from the squad for the December 15 Manchester derby, prior to which he expressed a desire for a "new challenge." Since his debut in 2016, Rashford has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances, earning multiple honors with United, including the Europa League and two FA Cups.
Amorim indicated that the situation with Rashford will be evaluated in the future, but for now, he remains unavailable for selection.
