A man has been charged following an alleged assault on Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish after Sunday's Premier League match at Old Trafford. The incident took place as both teams were leaving the pitch following a 0-0 draw between Manchester City and Manchester United. It is claimed that Grealish was slapped in the face by a man near the Old Trafford tunnel as players walked off after the final whistle.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have identified the suspect as 20-year-old Alfie Holt, a resident of Droylsden. Holt has been charged with assault and is scheduled to appear in Manchester Magistrates Court on July 14.
The police have confirmed that the charge relates to the incident at Old Trafford on April 6, 2025. Manchester City has declined to comment on the matter, while United sources confirmed that the club is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
The incident follows a controversial moment during the match when Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola criticized Manchester United fans for derogatory chants aimed at Phil Foden's mother. Guardiola condemned the behavior, labeling it a "lack of class" and emphasized the harm caused by such actions.
He expressed disbelief that Foden's mother was involved in the chants, calling it a sign of a lack of integrity and class. Despite the criticism, both clubs have continued to address the situation, with United condemning abusive behavior from fans.
