On Wednesday, Kylian Mbappe's representatives declined the French football league's (LFP) offer to mediate in the ongoing dispute between the France captain and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) over unpaid wages and bonuses. Mbappe, who transferred to Real Madrid this summer, claims PSG owes him €55 million, including a signing bonus, the last three months of his salary, and an "ethical bonus" for the period.
The disagreement stems from Mbappe's assertion that PSG had agreed to waive the €55 million in August 2023, a claim the club disputes. Lawyers from both sides met early on Wednesday after Mbappe referred the matter to the LFP's legal committee, which subsequently proposed mediation.
Mbappe's entourage rejected the mediation offer, arguing that it would be ineffective since the lack of payment is evident from a straightforward review of the player's payslips. They stated that mediation would not resolve the clear financial discrepancies.
In response, PSG expressed satisfaction with the LFP's recommendation for mediation, emphasizing their desire for a resolution. The club reiterated its position that Mbappe had made repeated commitments that should be honored, citing the significant benefits he received during his seven years with PSG. The LFP is expected to announce its decision on the case by Friday.
