The Consul General, French Embassy in Nigeria, Laurent Favier, assured the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) of support for sports development, particularly in technical aspects aimed at enhancing talent growth.
Favier gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to the LSSC at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The Director of Public Relations at LSSC, Titi Oshodi-Eko, mentioned various discussions on how to harness synergies between Lagos State and France in sports development during the visit.
"Discussions held during the visit centered around strengthening the existing ties between Lagos State and France, with a particular focus on sports.
"Avenues for mutually beneficial collaboration that would not only deepen cultural exchange between the two nations but also accelerate sports development in Lagos State were explored," she said.
The Director-General (D-G) of LSSC, Lekan Fatodu, hosted the Consul General of France and his team at the consulate, commending the French delegation for the insightful visit.
"The D-G commended the kind expression of support by the French Embassy.
"He noted that such innovation would be a remarkable pivot in the extraordinary investment and assistance Governor Sanwo-Olu is providing towards sporting excellence.
"France has a rich sporting heritage, and their expertise in various disciplines can undoubtedly elevate the standards of sports in our state.
"Likewise, the vibrant and passionate sporting culture and ecosystem in Lagos hold immense potential for fruitful partnerships," Fatodu stated.
Fatodu, in his closing remarks, expressed gratitude to Favier and the entire team at the French Consulate for their warm hospitality and their commitment to furthering closer ties between the two nations.
He also noted that the commission looked forward to the countless opportunities that lie ahead for the development of sports in Lagos State and the enrichment of cultural ties with France.
